In the name of the French Republic, the Consul General of France Clément Leclerc, presented Mr. Donald Rothwell, former Professor at the University of Florida, with the Legion of Honor medal. As a Staff Sergeant in the 36th Air Service Squadron of the Army of the United States, Mr. Donald Rothwell fought alongside France during World War II.
For his service, he received the insignias of “Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur” (Knight in the Legion of Honor”) on May 15th, 2018.
Created to reward eminent military and civil merits in the service of France, the “Légion d’Honneur” (Legion of Honor) is the highest distinction that can be conferred in France on a French citizen as well as on a foreigner.
Rothwell was honored to receive the award and shared how serving his country allowed him to meet new people and save lives. "Words can't express it. It's a wonderful opportunity for a person to take advantage of serving their country,” Rothwell said.
