Last week, UNICollaboration showcased Paloma Rodriguez and Sebastian Rodriguez from the University of Florida to explore how their institution leverages #VirtualExchange as a key strategy for Internationalization at Home (I@H).

Rodriguez shared insights into UF’s approach, highlighting how Virtual Exchange (VE) fosters global learning experiences without the need for travel.

A huge thank you to all the speakers—Prof. Pedro Malavet, Dr. Samuel Quiñones, and Lic. Rolando Emmanuelli—for sharing their time and insights during Puerto Rico Perspectives at the Levin College of Law. The audience was captivated by the discussion, and it was clear the event provided a meaningful and timely update on the Island.

Kudos to Lauren, Kelly, and the UEPA team for organizing such a successful gathering! UFIC is always proud to support events that bring students, faculty, and staff together for impactful conversations. The Office of Global Learning is pleased to announce the award winners for the first annual Global Learning Excellence Awards. The awardees were honored at an awards banquet on April 1st, 2025, where they were recognized for their significant contributions and impact in supporting OGL’s mission of ensuring all UF students have opportunities to gain global perspectives and engage in international interactions, without the need to travel abroad. Each award winner has been presented with a plaque and an award of $1,500 to mark this achievement.

This week, the Office of Global Learning hosted two COIL coordinators from Central America, whose visit was funded by the U.S. embassy-sponsored project: "Expanding and Embedding COIL Virtual Exchange at Honduran and Central American Universities – A Regional Partnership Initiative with The United States." Laura Caunter from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) and Laura Saborío Oviedo from the Universidad Estatal a Distancia (UNED) in Costa Rica met with faculty from across the University to exchange insights on managing distance education programs and discuss possible areas for collaboration, including how to expand on existing virtual exchange (VE) partnerships. Ms....

Dean Marta Wayne of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida recently participated in NAFSA Advocacy Day, held in Washington, D.C. Danielle Black is an F-1 International Student Advisor working here at UFIC, and her story is one of determination, personal growth, and deep empathy. Danielle was born in Brazil and moved to the United States at 27 to attend the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. The UF Japanese Club, in collaboration with the UF International Center, hosted a lively Spring Festival, Harumatsuri, on March 28, 2025, at the Reitz Union outdoor Tabling Area. 

The event featured a variety of engaging cultural activities, including calligraphy, yukata try-ons, and interactive tabling experiences. Attendees had the chance to participate in trivia, fan-decorating, and origami at the J-Club activity tables. 

Other highlights included artist tables, Japanese language department representatives, the Tea Club, and organizations like Gator Anime, Gator Gaming, and SwampCon. The festival brought together students and community members to celebrate...
