The Reitz North Lawn was abuzz with students, faculty, and staff alike at our latest Study Abroad Fair! Approximately 70 different departments, programs, and outside providers participated in the Fair, all with a shared goal of highlighting the many study abroad options and resources available to UF students. Those tabling included the Colleges of Agricultural & Life Sciences, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, and Health & Human Performance, among others! UFIC looks forward to hosting our next Study Abroad Fair next year.

Growing up in the small, coastal town of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, first-year University of Florida College of Medicine student Rodrigo Alcala-Arana was surrounded by kind neighbors, delicious fried fish, and lots of dancing.

Candice DeBose-Tyson is one of the talented team of F-1 International Student Advisors working at UFIC in our International Student Services (ISS) department. Candice is a born and raised Gainesville resident who has been helping our F-1 Student population since Summer 2006.  

“Born a Gator”, as Candice self-describes, she attended Eastside High School. Candice started off her college career, by earning an AA at Santa Fe College. Later, she attended St. Leo University and earned her BA in Business Administration, with a Minor in Human Resources.  She went on to earn her Master’s from St. Leo in 2008, “I was able to earn my MBA while working here at the International Center.” ...

UF was pleased to host João Lucas Quental N. De Almeida, Consul General of Brazil in Orlando. This visit strengthens university connections and business with Brazil. Consul João Lucas Quental N. De Almeida met with various departments such as the Center for Latin American Studies, the College of Engineering, and the UF International Center.

The Brazil Consulate in Orlando was recently opened, and all organizations are excited about building connections between the two regions.

Building on a collaboration initiated through a joint virtual exchange project, Drs. Pasha Antonenko and Andrea Ramirez Salgado from UF and Dr. Nadia Rosero from Universidad ICESI in Colombia have now been awarded funding from 100,000 Strong in the Americas to further engage their students and other faculty in exploring applications of artificial intelligence to strengthen the chili value chain. The project will include a new virtual exchange project, a physical mobility opportunity for 3 ICESI students to take a course on AI at UF, and training for ICESI faculty on developing a curriculum for a course on AI.
