Join the UF Center for African Studies in welcoming Alioune Sow, Interim Director and Associate Professor! Dr. Sow has been a part of CAS since 2004 when he was jointly appointed as a faculty member of the Center and the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. He has also served as the director of the France Florida Research Institute from 2012-2018 and the Undergraduate Coordinator for French. Dr. Sow's work has included research focusing on post-colonial political transitions and the production of memoirs in Mali, on intellectual encounters and cultural production in France and West Africa, and migration and theatre.
"As interim CAS Director for the 2022-2023 academic year, it is my great pleasure to welcome faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and friends of CAS to a new academic year. I would like to thank outgoing Director Brenda Chalfin for her successful and productive tenure in the past six years. Many thanks also to Todd Leedy, Sarah Foxx, Kiyesha Brooks, and Brittany Clarke for their help and support during the transition. It is a privilege to lead the Center until the search for a new Director is completed.
It is a great honor to contribute to CAS interdisciplinary mission and programs to develop and disseminate research and knowledge about the African continent. This semester we have several activities, seminars, and workshops already scheduled. Most of the information about the activities will be communicated through our listservs, CAS website, and the weekly CAS newsletters. Information about CAS activities is also posted on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube), where news about the Center, its faculty, students, staff, and friends are shared. I wish you all a productive and pleasant semester." - Dr. Alioune Sow
