The Center for Global Islamic Studies wanst to welcome Dr. Benedikt Pontzen. Dr Pontzen, an anthropologist, who has conducted extensive research on Islam and African "traditional" religion in Ghana, as well as earlier research in Mali, is joining the Center for Global Islamic Studies, the Department of Religion, and the Center for African Studies as a Postdoctoral Associate in the project, "Islam in Africa in Global Context," funded through the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Religion and International Affairs. He completed his PhD at the Freie Universität's Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies and has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin Dahlem Research School, the Institute of African Studies at the Universität Bayreuth, and the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS). The author of several articles and book chapters about Islam, his book about Islam in Ghana is forthcoming with the International African Library published by Cambridge University Press. His office will be at CAS in Grinter 472A. Please help in welcoming Dr Pontzen to UF!
