Two international education symposiums were organized in Côte D’Ivoire and Senegal as part of the LSU SIO Africa Engagement Program. Dean Marta L. Wayne represented the University of Florida. The SIO Africa Engagement Initiative seeks to reimagine how US colleges and universities intentionally engage with Africa. Every year since 2022, LSU has gathered a delegation of international education leaders from across the US and brought them to connect with their peers and with students across the African continent. The program aims to open the door to collaborative, mutually beneficial partnerships between US and African institutions — to exchange ideas, collaborative research projects, and student mobility/study abroad programs for both African and US students.

These symposiums addressed the state of higher education in each country, discussed ways to tackle and minimize unbalanced and inequitable international partnerships, and highlighted the current migration challenges and their impact on Senegal’s economic and cultural outlook.
