Dr. Heidi C. Powell, UF School of Art and Art History Associate Professor and Director of the MAAE Online program has been named as a Fulbright Scholar to the Dominican Republic serving in the 2022-2023 academic year.

Dr. Powell will be researching cultural continuity in arts practice reflective of national identity, conducting art making as research, and developing high-and-low tech engagement in arts teaching and learning processes. These engagement goals are connected to the U.S. Embassy's main areas of focus in the DR; education, security and disaster response.

The Fulbright Commission (IIE/CIES), The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), and Presidentially appointed board to select highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals to represent the U.S. and work collaboratively with international partners in educational, political, cultural, economic and scientific fields to strengthen international institutional collaboration, and foster new research initiatives. Scholar projects are individual or collaborative centering on research or teaching. As a Fulbright Grantee, Dr. Powell will join the ranks of other distinguished participants exemplifying service, leadership, and excellence in their field.
