This past summer, Hana Elkady spent her time in Egypt completing her undergraduate studies through her Sustainability in The Built Environment Senior Capstone project. Egypt is a developing country located in Northeast Africa that connects Africa to the Middle East. It is also Hana Elkady home country in which she lived in until the age of seven and have returned to each summer. "No one has knowledge of the tap water quality in Egypt nor does anyone trust it enough to drink it" Elkady said.
The rapid growth of the country has put immense pressure on its sole water resource, The Nile River. Hana wanted to give back to her people by evaluating the water quality of my country by using the WELL Water Concept in hopes of providing meaningful solutions through the results found.
The WELL Standard is a green building certification created in 2014 by the International WELL Building Institute that focuses on enhancing human health and well-being in the built environment. The WELL Standard also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Guide for improving Egypt’s water by Hana Elkady
After evaluating her results through a comparative analysis, she came up with a guideline flowchart that can aid Egypt in mitigating their water quality and scarcity issues. Hana's goal was to provide solutions that can be implemented or have the potential to change Egypt’s water for the better.
