This successful study abroad program hosted in the Summer, allowed students to further their knowledge of European life, economy, history, & politics in a highly immersive environment.
Through coursework and site visits, students became more knowledgeable about global problems affecting the Mediterranean - Southern Italy in particular. Students also analyzed issues such as migration, economic trends and challenges in the European Union, religion and identity in the Mediterranean, international criminal organizations, the global causes affecting the destruction of marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean, and the impact of international tourism on small Italian communities. The program included activities and assignments to foster the integration of experiential and academic learning and to help students articulate their learning and skills digitally through the development of an electronic portfolio.
