“I am honored to have been selected to lead the UF International Center, and to follow Dean Villalón! The Center has thrived under his leadership, and I am looking forward to building on his and the Center staff’s achievements.
It is hard to imagine a more urgent time for international engagement. We face global challenges from pandemics to climate change to food shortages, challenges that no individual nation can solve on their own. We are poised at the edge of the fourth industrial revolution. AI and associated technologies could help the world solve global problems, or worsen them by exacerbating inequality. It’s an important and exciting period for all of us to be involved in creating the future we want to see.
As your new dean, I am committed to increasing our international engagement, to keeping the UF community looking, learning, and researching beyond our borders. It’s what we owe our students and the people of the state of Florida—and the world.”
