The University of Florida has been approved to be a part of the national collaborative project under the University Capacity Development Program: University Staff Doctoral Program. UF will be working alongside the University of Johannesburg and Central University of Technology to implement the project and accomplish the program’s goals. The project will include implementing support skillsets essential for research and student success while also structuring activities to meet the UCDP’s goals of integrating staff development, program development, and student development, through this international collaboration. There are four components to the project with an aim on viability. The components include:
* Study abroad
* Lecturer Replacement in South Africa
* Continual Research, Supervisory Capacitation and Professional Development
* Parallel Stream Doctoral Enrollment
The programs objctives include:
* Enabling current South African staff members to earn Ph.D.
* Selecting staff members who will increase the diversity of the South African professoriate
* Enhance student learning and professional goals by focusing on coursework and professional development that will increase candidate’s academic and professional competencies
* Providing enhanced mentoring skills to future South African staff members and to allow for enhanced research capacity development and collaboration on a number of levels internationally.
