The project focuses on exploring cultural differences and similarities in the development of self (self-concept and self-esteem). Students participate in a series of asynchronous discussions using Flip with students from Shimane University led by Prof. Carmella Lieske (Global Leadership, Global Careers, and Global Understanding), and students from São Paulo State University (UNESP) School of Sciences - Department of Psychology Bauru, SP, Brazil, led by Dr. Erico Bruno Viana Campos. After participation, all students write a short reflection paper.
1. Being able to define and give examples of self-concept and self-esteem.
2. Being able to articulate some of the cultural similarities in the development of the self.
3. Being able to articulate some of the cultural differences in the development of the self.
4. Being able to offer at least one theory/explanation for cultural differences in the development of the self.
5. Being able to communicate and articulate one's point of view to college students from non-US cultural background.
6. Recognizing cultural effects on one's development.
