What drew attention to UF, especially without having been there before?
“I completely fell in love with it. Later, I applied to different colleges, and even though I had never been to Gainesville before, UF caught my attention. Not only for its strong academic reputation but also for the achievements of its students—both graduates and undergraduates—and the strong sense of community that I could feel from everyone at the university.”
What role did being part of organizations like BRASA and the Association of Information Systems play in your personal and professional growth?
“My involvement in these activities completely changed my experience at UF. Professionally, it complemented everything I was learning in class by allowing me to apply my academic knowledge through hands-on experiences, preparing me for internships and my future career. Additionally, it helped me build connections and a community I’m forever grateful for.”
As an international student, what were some of the most difficult aspects of finding career opportunities in the U.S.? How did you navigate those challenges?
“Like many international students, I faced challenges with finding jobs that accepted work authorizations. My advice is to accept that these challenges will be there but not to let them discourage you. Many doors may initially seem closed because of these requirements, but if you keep working hard, building connections, and seeking support, opportunities will arise. Although you may face rejection, persistence is key.”
What advice would you give to international students considering studying at UF or any other university in the U.S.?
“If you're looking for a place where you can thrive academically and professionally while being part of a deeply supportive and engaged community, UF is the place for you. There’s space for everyone, regardless of your background or interests. The university provides countless tools to help you succeed, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for such an environment.”
Can you describe a specific moment or project that had a significant impact on your personal growth at UF?
“During my time at the Brazilian Student Association (BRASA), membership increased over threefold—from 40-50 active members to over 130. We implemented a wide range of events, and I’m proud to have been part of the transformation and growth of the Brazilian community at UF. In addition, I contributed to the college by mentoring younger students, participating in Q&A sessions, providing professional mentorship, and assisting with resumes and career advice.”
Looking back on your time at UF, what’s one personal experience that you’re particularly proud of?
“Every year at UF was different, but the most rewarding part has been finishing as a double Gator and seeing younger Gators reach out to me for support and inspiration. Knowing that my hard work has motivated others to aim for higher dreams and professional goals is deeply fulfilling.”
What do you do to unwind or relax outside of your academic and professional commitments?
“I like to connect with my roots. Cooking Brazilian food, listening to samba, and spending time with friends all help me unwind.”
