Dr. Muthusami Kumaran, Associate Professor of Nonprofit Management & Community Organizations, Department of Family, Youth & Community Sciences (FYCS), CALS/IFAS has just received a grant from the U. S. Embassy – Bishkek for a project to train NGO/nonprofit leaders in the Kyrgyz Republic, Central Asia.

During this six-month grant project, Dr. Kumaran will train 100 NGO leaders from the capital city of Bishkek and two other cities of Osh and Karakol across Kyrgyzstan to enhance their organizational management skills for resource mobilization and community relations.

“By their very nature and through their mission focus, NGOs build the capacity of their clients through social services, environmental conservation, and a host of other services to humanity. My role in assisting to build that capacity is rewarding personally and professionally. It also illustrates the global impacts of my home department of FYCS, CALS/IFAS, and UF.”, said Dr. Kumaran.

Professor Kumaran will also establish Communities of Practice as networking platforms for local NGOs in all three project sites to promote collaboration for effective advocacy and efficient public service delivery.

Dr. Kumaran is an internationally recognized NGO management capacity-building expert and the author of the recent book “Managing A Million Missions: Strategic Capacity Building for Non-Governmental Organizations.” Kyrgyzstan is the 9th country where Dr. Kumaran is expanding FYCS/CALS/UF reach and footprint through his service in building the capacity of NGO sectors globally.

Congrats, Dr. K.!
