The University of Florida is proud to be included on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2020-2021 Fulbright U.S. Scholars. Each year the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces the top-producing institutions for the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program. The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes the lists annually.

Five UF’s scholars were awarded Fulbright awards for 2020-2021, ranking the University of Florida 7th (shared place), more than any other university in the nation of its type.

UF’s 2020-2021 U.S. Fulbright Scholar awardees, their respective fields, and the country in which they will carry out their Fulbright duties are:

Dr. Coray Colina (Department of Chemistry), Mexico
Dr. Jillian Hernandez awarded a Specialist Fulbright Award (Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women's Studies Research, Latin America
Dr. Jiri Hulcr (UF/IFAS School of Forest Resources and Conservation), Czechia (former Czech Republic
Dr. Andrea Lucky (UF/IFAS Entomology and Nematology Department), Czechia
Lawrence Page (Florida Museum of Natural History), Thailand

This year, the International Center is pleased to host Fulbright Awareness Week (FAW) from March 1-5, 2021. In collaboration with the UF Fulbright Lectures Committee, UF Honors, the Graduate School, College of Arts, UF IFAS, College of Education, Levin College of Law, Career Connections Center, and the North Florida Fulbright Alumni Association, multiple informational sessions for scholars, faculty and staff will provide opportunities to learn about Fulbright, the application process, and to hear about the experiences of past Fulbright scholars and students. “Despite the changes brought about by the pandemic, the Fulbright mission remains the same and the International Center continues to support faculty and staff interested in exploring international exchange and collaborations through Fulbright”, said Dr. Leonardo Villalón, Dean of the International Center. “We feel honored to be a part of Fulbright’s 75 Anniversary Celebration.”.

The principal purpose of the Fulbright program is to increase a mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of more than 150 countries that participate in the program. They aim to establish open communication and cooperative relationships by enriching the educational, political, economic, social and cultural lives of countries around the world.
