The UF in London Smart Cities and Disability Access program brought together UF students from all fields of study to learn about disability access in London and the role of smart technology in facilitating access for all citizens. The program was a culmination of efforts by the UF Disability Resource Center (DRC), Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE), and the UF International Center (UFIC) to give students with disabilities the opportunity to study abroad while simultaneously raising awareness about the challenges that people with disabilities face in urban environments and for promoting the development of accessible infrastructure and technology.
"This year for the first time, and after many attempts, we have been able to get our UF in London – Smart Cities and Disability Access off the ground, with 18 students studying in London in early May, with Jenna Gonzales (Disability Resource Center) and Sarah Rajkumari Jayasekaran (College of Engineering) accompanying the students.", said Dr. Susanne Hill, Executive Director at the UF International Center.
