The UF in London Technological Applications for Disability Access program, developed through a collaboration between Learn International (LI), the University of Florida’s Disability Resource Center (DRC), and Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE), is an innovative study abroad experience aimed at fostering inclusion and accessibility. Launched in 2023 after years of planning, this short-term faculty-led program offers students with and without disabilities an immersive learning opportunity that integrates technological innovation with real-world applications of disability access. Its goal is to expand opportunities for students, empower them to explore solutions to global challenges, and promote a more inclusive international education landscape.

A distinctive feature of this program is its unwavering commitment to accessibility. While traditional study abroad experiences often present barriers for students with disabilities, this program was designed to be fully inclusive, ensuring that all participants, regardless of ability, can engage in the learning experience. This program breaks new ground in the study abroad field by integrating accessibility into every aspect of the program.

In 2025, the program will introduce a hackathon in partnership with the University of East London, a distinctive addition that supports the innovation process. The hackathon encourages students to collaborate and develop cutting-edge solutions to real-world accessibility challenges. This hands-on project allows students to move through Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle, from conceptualizing ideas to reflecting and refining them into practical outcomes.

Students will present their final products to a panel of judges, including experts, stakeholders, and community members, fostering ownership of their learning. This evolution of the program strengthens the impact of students' work and deepens their engagement, resulting in more meaningful educational outcomes.
