UFIC is pleased to announce that Hannah Jo Maier is our new Campus Peace Corps Recruiter as of August.
Hannah Jo received her B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of Michigan in 2018. After graduation, Hannah Jo worked as a field assistant for the Sea Turtle Conservancy in Panama, where she collected sea turtle nesting data to measure the efficacy of conservation projects in the area . From 2019-2020, Hannah Jo served in the U.S. Peace Corps as a volunteer in the Education sector. She worked in an indigenous community in the Ecuadorian Amazon, teaching English as a Foreign Language under the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education and developing rural tourism projects with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism. After working closely with indigenous leaders on environmental justice projects, Hannah Jo developed a professional interest in climate migration and indigenous natural resource management and practices. Hannah Jo’s service ended prematurely due to the COVID19 pandemic.
Hannah Jo is currently a first year graduate student in the Master’s of Sustainable Development Practice program at the University of Florida. She has an interest in the multilateral governance of natural resources, and hopes that her research will focus on the relationship between gender equality, climate change, and opportunity. As Florida’s campus recruiter, Hannah Jo will hold panels with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, perform outreach activities to diverse student groups, and advise students on ways to become more competitive during the Peace Corps application process.
