$1.2 Million Digitization Project Expands Access to Newspapers in Florida and the Caribbean

The Florida & Puerto Rico Digital Newspaper Project (FPRDNP) has officially come to an end. A collaborative $923,000 project between the University of Florida (UF) George A. Smathers Libraries and the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (UPR-RP) library system, the FPRDNP has provided access to hundreds of digitized pages of historic newspapers from Florida and Puerto Rico that were previously found only on microfilm.

The UF International Center is pleased to announce the start of its Global Learning Institute (GLI) and congratulates all 2020 Awardees!

The Global Learning Institute gathers a select cohort of faculty members to engage in a semester-long curriculum internationalization program. Institute participants attend eight workshops and receive information on tools, resources, and techniques to make their on-campus courses more global.

Kole Odutola was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but now is a citizen of the world. From a career that evolved almost accidentally with a borrowed camera, Kole Odutola transformed himself from a graduate of Botany into a street photographer when his snapshots of everyday life led him to the curious power of the image. He continued to photograph until his work caught the eye of a magazine publisher who hired him to shoot pictures of Lagos for daily publication. International Student Represented UF at BRASA Summit

Vinicius Martinson, an international student from Brazil, is a computer engineering student at the University of Florida. He was selected to moderate a panel in Boston for BRASA Summit, the largest Brazilian student conference in North America. Among other moderators from MIT and Harvard, Vinicius moderated a panel with IBM President (Latin America), VTex CEO and Vice-President of Technology and Research of Albert Einstein Hospital (most prestigious hospital in Brazil).

“Nooks and Crannies in Oyster Clusters and their Species Diversity”

Interstitial spaces between structures are used by prey species as a refuge and this affects the predator-prey interactions and local species diversity. To experimentally test this hypothesis, Kim will be artificially creating structures with different space morphologies to see how those various shapes of spaces can affect the species colonization over time. His presentation focused on the processes of preparing the experiment as well as results.
