When she was a student at William S. Talbot Elementary, Keira Lee was only one of three Asian American children at the school. Without proper representation in the classroom, tales from her Chinese immigrant grandparents served as the only source of Asian American history education she received as a child.

On May 15th Dr. Mary Risner, Assoc. Director of the Center for Latin American Studies, and Paloma Rodriguez, Director of the Office of Global Learning, co-led a workshop on virtual exchange for administrators and faculty from institutions from all over the world. The event was hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University as part of the Annual Hanseatic League of Universities conference, which brought together delegates from 24 countries including the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Brazil, Mexico, Hungary, Italy, Albania, Germany, and the US. GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women's basketball guard Alberte Rimdal was named to the Denmark National Team and will play in the Mitsui Fudosan Cup, part of the International Basketball Games 2023 this summer, the Danmarks Basketball Forbund announced.

Denmark and Rimdal will face off against the 2020 Olympic Silver Medalist Japan National Team in a three-game series that will be played from June 16-18 at the Takasaki Arena. This year, Japan is ranked ninth in FIBA's world rankings, while Denmark is ranked No. 52.

A new study by Michael Kung and Kasım Kıroğlu has recently been published on campus resources needed to recruit and retain graduate international students at large universities.

Dr. Kung is the Associate Director at the Office for Global Research Engagement, having joined the International Center in February 2023.

Karen Reed, MSN, DHSc, RN, CNE, CNL, CRRN, Clinical Assistant Professor in the UF College of Nursing has been selected by the US State Department as a US Fulbright Specialist to conduct a faculty development project with Vin University in Hanoi, Vietnam during the Summer of 2023. Dr. Reed will spend 5 weeks collaborating with Vietnamese faculty on teaching methods and test prep strategies.

Crystal Marull, Ph.D., Lecturer of Online Spanish / Spanish and Portuguese Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has received UF's Online Educator of the Year Award in recognition of high-quality course design that improves student engagement, student learning, and student satisfaction. Dr. Marull will be UF’s nominee for the newly created State University System President’s Award for online teaching.

The UF International Center staff had a productive time at Lake Wauburg Park. UFIC stepped back from regular daily activities to discuss its mission, vision, plans, and goals to help inform a strategic plan and future decisions.

The Fulbright Association of North Florida Chapter got together recently to build community and network at One Love Cafe in Gainesville. Fulbright friends and families enjoyed delicious food and a great time.
