This semester, seven dedicated Spanish students completed internships across various organizations, applying their language skills and gaining invaluable experience in different professional fields. These internships provided the students with unique opportunities to enhance their Spanish language proficiency while making meaningful contributions to the organizations they served.

Thanks to the sponsorship of UF Center for Latin American Studies a delegation from UF and Santa Fe College visited the Universidad Autónoma de Campeche and Instituto Campechano and the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán in Mérida, Mexico, to explore collaborations around virtual exchange. Carrie Martins, Coordinator of Virtual Exchange Initiatives in the Office of Global Learning at UFIC, represented UF in this visit and co-led a session on virtual exchange for K-16 educators in Campeche from various institutions.

Malini Johar Schueller

Prof. Malini Johar Schueller of U.F.’s Department of English won this year’s National Book Award in the Philippines in the category of Best Book of Literary Criticism/Cultural Studies in English for Campaigns of Knowledge: U.S. Pedagogies of Colonialism and Occupation in the Philippines and Japan. The book was published by Ateneo de Manila University Press and by Temple University Press.

The International Scholars Program held a graduation ceremony on April 26th. This spring 91 students received their global learning medallions, a record-breaking number in the history of the program. The International Scholars Program (ISP) is a graduation distinction program that helps students develop intercultural competence on a personal and professional level. Through international coursework, language learning, and campus engagement, students acquire essential international experience and perspective.

The Global Learning Community of Practice gathered to learn about the virtual exchange projects implemented by professors Megan Mocko (UF), Ricardo Lopez (USFQ, Ecuador), Denise Zornoff UNESP (Brazil), and Jeffrey Pufahl (UF). Faculty had an opportunity to exchange ideas about global learning and meet the international visitors. This event was hosted by the Office of Global Learning and co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies and the Center for Teaching Excellence.

The Office of Global Learning welcomed Dr. Denise Zornoff from UNESP (Brazil) and Dr. Ricardo Lopez from USFQ (Ecuador) last week. During their visit, they presented on their collaborative projects at the Interface and RiTL conferences along with their UF Virtual Exchange partners, Prof. Megan Mocko, Lecturer at the Warrington College of Business, and Prof. Jeffrey Pufahl, Research Assistant Professor at the College of the Arts.
