Fulbright Awareness Month at UF started with the annual Fulbright reception hosted by President Ben Sasse and Dean Marta L. Wayne.

Eoghan O’Regan, Deputy Head of North America from the Welsh Government came to UF on Monday to meet with students attending the UF in Wales – Writing in International Studies, Law, & Relations study abroad program. O'Regan offered students a quick history lesson, spoke about the planned educational excursions and volunteer opportunities students would participate in, and answered questions students had.

In this talk, Elizabeth Hoffecker shared practices that she and her colleagues at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) D-Lab have developed for engaging in respectful, mutually-enriching, long-term collaborations with scholars and practitioner-researchers from around the world. Drawing on over 10 years of experience conducting international development research at MIT involving projects and collaborators from over 10 countries on six continents, Elizabeth talked about strategies and addressed common pitfalls and challenges encountered in forming and sustaining research internationally.

The International Center and the Consulate General of Japan in Miami partnered to present the Japan Spring Festival @ UF last week. Hundreds of staff, faculty and students participated in this activity at the Reitz Union. Participants enjoyed Japanese cultural live music, tea demonstrations, origami, and calligraphy, and learned about educational and professional programs in Japan. The Consul General of Miami, Kazuhiro Nakai delivered remarks on friendship and future collaborations. Big thanks to the following collaborators!

After losing everything when her home of Luhansk, Ukraine, was occupied by pro-Russian separatists in 2014, Natalia Pluzhnyk moved to Severodonetsk, Ukraine. There, she worked on the front lines of the war in eastern Ukraine as a volunteer — all while being terrified Russia would try to seize her home again.

To ensure the safety of her teenage daughter and provide her with an opportunity to attend college, she moved to Gainesville in 2017.

Earlier this month, the University of Florida was named a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for U.S. Students for the first time in 10 years by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

This recognition is given to the U.S. colleges and universities that received the highest number of applicants selected for the 2022-2023 Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
