The Transdisciplinary Participatory Research Exchange Program, led jointly by the University of Florida (UF) and Universidad Amazónica de Pando (UAP), has a clear mission: to empower the next generation of scientists to engage in transdisciplinary research aimed at addressing pressing societal challenges. Focusing on critical topics such as the green economy, environmental concerns, climate action, energy transition, and gender, this program creates a dynamic platform for collaborative research and cross-cultural experiences, bridging the gap between undergraduate students at UAP and graduate students at UF.

In Summer of 2021, the International Center hosted four Jordanian Fulbright scholars participating in the Fulbright Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP), a ten-week intensive program focused on environmental sustainability. The program was developed to enhance scholars’ teaching and research skills, as well as establish long term institutional linkages.

UF was honored to host, once again, one of the scholars from Mutah University in Karak, Jordan, Dr. Mohammad Al-Qaralleh, who returned to the US recently and made a stop in the Gator Nation.

This past summer, Hana Elkady spent her time in Egypt completing her undergraduate studies through her Sustainability in The Built Environment Senior Capstone project. Egypt is a developing country located in Northeast Africa that connects Africa to the Middle East. It is also Hana Elkady home country in which she lived in until the age of seven and have returned to each summer. "No one has knowledge of the tap water quality in Egypt nor does anyone trust it enough to drink it" Elkady said.

Introduced by Dean Marta L. Wayne on potential international implications, a panel of AI ethics experts discussed the many considerations and ethical challenges of Artificial Intelligence such as lack of transparency of AI tools, AI decisions not always intelligible to humans or not being neutral, AI-based decisions susceptible to inaccuracies, and sometimes inserted bias. This successful study abroad program hosted in the Summer, allowed students to further their knowledge of European life, economy, history, & politics in a highly immersive environment.

Through coursework and site visits, students became more knowledgeable about global problems affecting the Mediterranean - Southern Italy in particular. Students also analyzed issues such as migration, economic trends and challenges in the European Union, religion and identity in the Mediterranean, international criminal organizations, the global causes affecting the destruction of marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean, and the impact of international tourism on small Italian communities.
