Alessandro Forte, professor of geology at the University of Florida, is one of the winners of the third wave of the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) call for projects. He will join the IPGP geomagnetism team for a joint project called GYPTIS aimed at better identifying the geodynamic disturbances of climatic markers.

Margaret Galvan, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was awarded a Stanford Humanities Center External Faculty Fellowship for academic year 2021-22. This distinguished residential fellowship supports scholars working in the humanities and interpretive social sciences to pursue their research while participating in the interdisciplinary residential community of the Stanford Humanities Center. The Spanish and Portuguese Studies Department has started Conexão UF, a biweekly column being featured in the latest Consulate General of Brazil in Miami news bulletin. Their Portuguese student interns (Victoria, Megan, and Nicole) will be contributing to the column and getting the opportunity to work on their Portuguese language skills while connecting with the Brazilian community in Florida and promoting UF.

On Friday, February 5, 2021, the IDEA Task Force, along with the UF International Center and the UF Libraries, hosted a webinar to discuss the history of race at the University of Florida through images from the UF Archives Photograph Collection.

The webinar was presented by Carl Van Ness and moderated by Twanna Hodge. Van Ness is a UF Historian, Florida Political Papers archivist in the Department of Special and Area Studies Collections in the George A. Smathers libraries. Dr. Muthusami Kumaran, Associate Professor of Nonprofit Management & Community Organizations, Department of Family, Youth & Community Sciences, CALS/IFAS, has been assisting the NGO sector in Belize during the past two years through a grant funded by the U.S. Embassy - Belize.
