The International Center is pleased to announce the 2024 Study Abroad Leadership Program Faculty Cohort!

The Study Abroad Leadership Program (SALP) is a semester-long program that provides a cohort of 5-10 UF faculty with the training, tools, and funding to develop new and innovative faculty-led summer study abroad programs. Any faculty member with an idea for a new study abroad program that helps us meet this objective is encouraged to apply.

This leadership program consists of a series of workshops offered in the Spring semester with the goal of assisting faculty in developing a robust program proposal for the following summer (~ 1 year lead time)....

Last Spring, Dr. Gabriele Tebaldi, professor from the University of Parma and the integral person who helped establish the ESSIE and UF Memoranda of Understanding between the University of Parma and UF ESSIE, suggested that ESSIE get involved with the MUNER program. Upon his suggestion, two delegates from the University of Florida Engineering School of Sustainable School of Infrastructure and Environment visited the University of Parma in late November 2023. The showcase provided a captivating snapshot of the diverse and incredible journeys of the Fall 2023 ISP graduates through their global ePortfolios. The ePortfolios are a collection of a student’s achievements, skills, and international experiences, which serve as a comprehensive representation of their academic, professional, and personal growth.

People who speak two languages may be better at shifting their attention from one thing to another compared to those who speak one, according to a study published this month in the journal Bilingualism: Language and Cognition.

The study examined differences between bilingual and monolingual individuals when it comes to attentional control and ignoring information that isn’t important at the time, said its authors Grace deMeurisse, a University of Florida Ph.D. candidate studying linguistics, and Edith Kaan, a UF professor in the department of linguistics.
